Palermo airport is located 30km (18.5 miles) to the north west of Palermo. The only airline flying direct to Palermo from the UK is Ryanair (tel: 0906 270 5656; website: www.ryanair.com). Alitalia (website: www.alitalia.com) offers a service via mainland Italy.

Airport facilities: There is a bank and a bureau de change, a post office, a bar and self-service restaurant, a tourist information desk, and various shops. Car hire is available from a number of operators, including Avis, Europcar, Hertz, Maggiore and Sixt.

Transport to the city: There are regular trains linking the airport to the city centre. The journey takes about 45 minutes and trains run every 30 minutes peak times, every hour at other times. Coaches also serve the city centre (tel: (091) 580 457): they operate from 0645 until 2400 daily and run every 30 minutes. Coaches leave from just outside the arrivals terminal. Taxis are also available.
