Bogotá City Guide - Nightlife

The most happening spot is the Zona Rosa in the north of the city near the Andino and Atlantis shopping centres. The area offers lots of entertainment possibilities but particularly happening is Zona T with numerous bars, cafes, night clubs and restaurants.

Bars: Cafe Para Dos, Calle 14 no 3-12, is a very informal bar serving excellent mixed juices, where people sit on cushions on the floor. For something a bit stronger, try Museo del Tequilla, Carrera 13A no 86A-18 - with 1,585 bottles of tequila, it's the unofficial Tequila Museum. Mexican food (the very hot variety) is available here and there is usually some live Mexican music too. The unimaginatively named Pub, Carrera 12A no 83-48, is a popular Irish pub offering Murphy's on tap and fast food.

Clubs: Cha-Cha, 7th Avenue and 33rd Street, is one of the most exclusive (and expensive) clubs in town. It is located on the 41st floor of what once was the Hilton Hotel, in the old ballroom, and has kept the traditional elegant décor. Think crystal chandeliers meet electronic music. World-famous DJs often play here. Equally chic is Scirocco, currently one of the hottest places in Bogota. Try their unique watermelon Martinis, while listening to house music. Be warned drinks are on the expensive side. Salto del Angel, in the Park at 93rd Street, and Lola, 15th Avenue and 92nd Street, which attracts a student crowd, are cheaper, but also good places to go.

Live Music: Salome Pagana, Carrera 14A no 82-16, is a well- known salsateca with Son Cubano (Cuban music with Spanish and African influences). El Sitio, Carrera 11A no 93-52, is a trendy venue lit by candles, the music is usually live rock or techno DJ. Quiebra Canto, Carrera 5 no 17-76, is a split disco with a choice of music depending on the day; weekends are usually reserved for live music.
