Khreschatyk is truly the Oxford Street of Kiev - you can find anything here from mobile phones and cheap clothes to fine porcelain and expensive watches. But there are a number of malls in the city centre.
Tourists will be drawn towards the imposing glass atrium of the Globus behind the Maidan Nezalezhnosti, which opened in 2002. But the upmarket Mandarin-Plaza, 6 Basseynaya Street, is the best all-rounder with a number of very good restaurants amid the chic boutiques to feed hungry (and well-off shoppers). The mall is open daily 1000-2000.
For a more traditional Ukrainian shopping experience head for the Bessarabsky Rynok at the corner of Kreschatyk and Prospect Shevchenka. An informal gathering of souvenir stall holders can be found on Maidan Nezalezhnosti square. Andrivsky Uziz is lined with souvenir vendors but you will also find genuine arts and crafts here and good quality art galleries.
Most shops and malls open daily 1000-1800.
