Basel Tourismus (tel: (061) 268 6868; website: www.baseltourismus.ch) offers a number of scheduled tours, among them a one-hour tour on board a vintage tram, guided walking tours of the Old Town and a guided tour of the Roman town of August Raurica some 10km (6 miles) from Basel. In addition, the tourist office offers lots of guided tours that can be booked by groups, including a bus tour of the city, a fountains tour, art and architecture tours and many more. It is also possible to hire an iGuide at the tourist office, and armed with an i-pod follow in the footsteps of such well-known historical figures as Hans Holbein and Paracelsus. There are five tours to choose from, and the iGuide provides a valuable audiovisual accompaniment through the historical Old Town of Basel.
