Public Transport
De Lijn (tel: (03) 218 1411; website: www.delijn.be) is the city transport company operating a regular and efficient bus and tram service in and around the city. A few tram lines run partly underground and this is referred to as the Metro system. Useful trams for visitors are 2 and 15 which run between Groenplaats, at the heart of the old town, and the Centraal (railway) station. Most bus lines also begin outside Centraal station. Options are single tickets (valid for any journey within one hour), a carnet of 10 singles, a one-day pass, a three-day pass or a one-week pass. These are available from the tourist office and a public transport kiosk inside Centraal station (tel: 070 220 200).
Taxis
Antwerp Taxi (tel: (03) 238 3838; website: www.antwerp-tax.be) and Metropole (tel: (03) 231 31 31; website: www.metropole.be) are both reliable operators.
Car Hire
You won't need a car to get around Antwerp itself, but if you want to explore further afield Hertz (tel: (03) 239 29 21; website: www.hertz.com) have an office at the airport. Other major and local car hire companies, including Avis (tel: (03) 218 9496; website: www.avis.com), Budget (tel: (03) 213 7960; website: www.budget.be) and Europcar (tel: (03) 206 7444; website: www.europcar.be), have offices in the city centre and all major car hire companies have offices at Brussels Airport.
Bicycle Hire
Cycling is a popular way of getting around. Try Antwerp Bikes on Lijnwaadmarkt (tel: (03) 290 4962; website: www.antwerpbikes.be) or De Ligfiets, Steenhouwersvest 25 (tel: (03) 293 7456; website: www.ligfiets.be); many hotels also have bicycles available to their guests.
