Costa Ricans love to party, which means that you shouldn't have too much trouble finding a night spot. Hopping areas in the capital include the university district of Los Yoses and San Pedro and the raucous Centro Comercial El Pueblo.
Many establishments are open throughout the night, especially during weekends. With the exception of the small pubs, most bars double up as restaurants. There are also several casinos in San José for those interested in testing their luck.
Bars: Terra U, Mosakos and Caccio's on Calle La Amargura in Los Yoses and San Pedro are popular night spots for university students. Other good options include nearby Fuzion Bar and Touch Bar, both of which are located in the Mall San Pedro.
Clubs: Centro Comercial El Pueblo is the top nightspot in San José. Club Twister is your best spot for modern Latin music. Ebony 26 is one of the largest clubs around, and offers several different genres and dance floors. La Plaza is for the rich and beautiful, though you'll have to part with a little cash to play here.
Live Music: Café Loft in Barrio Amón has live DJs most nights of the week spinning everything from ambient to house. Jazz Café in Los Yoses and San Pedro is the best spot in the city to hear live jazz as well as salsa and blues.
