Other Recommendations

The Boston Park Plaza Hotel & Towers
The large, lavish lobby is a flashback to the 1920s. Huge crystal chandeliers hang from its high ornate ceilings and large bevelled mirrors decorate the walls. Though the Boston Park Plaza has been completely renovated, it still retains it early 20th-century allure. Comfortable guest rooms are decorated in ivories and beiges with mahogany furniture. Beds have white duvets and tufted headboards. Each room contains a nice work area, high-speed Internet access and an interactive digital television system. You will not go hungry either. There is 24-hour room service and three restaurants - Smith & Wollensky's Steakhouse, McCormick & Schmick (seafood) and celebrity chef Todd English's Bonfire Restaurant. The hotel is well located - adjacent to the Public Garden and within walking distance of the State House, theatre district and Beacon Hill.

Harborside Hyatt Conference Center and Hotel
The Harborside perches like a tall glass lighthouse near the mouth of Boston's harbour - only seven minutes by water taxi (guests get a discount) to the Financial District and Downtown. Although it is located very near Boston's airport, intensive soundproofing throughout assures serenity. Most of the 270 large rooms have dramatic views of the skyline across the harbour, and all are impeccably furnished for business travellers with huge work desks, modem points, voice-mail and video check-out. There are 19 meeting rooms and an amphitheatre for conferences, as well as a business centre. Whether working or not, the spectacular views from the Harborside Grill can be enjoyed all day - a good place for power breakfasts or the evening chocolate buffet. There is also the Harborside Grill Lounge for relaxation and informal food as well as a fully equipped private health club for de-stressing. The hotel has one smoking floor.

Hotel@MIT
The tongue-in-cheek, techy influence of nearby Massachusetts Institute of Technology permeates the Hotel@MIT. In the lobby there is complementary state-of-the-art Internet access, while copies of patents decorate wall panelling behind the reception desk. Robotic models take up much of the public space. Imbedded in the lift carpeting is an atom prototype, and see-through circuit boards serve as lampshades on hall lights. Furnishings are funky contemporary and ergonomically designed. Room artwork includes cartoons in the loo and photographs of former MIT scientists. The whimsical atmosphere adds rather than detracts from the excellent service, comfortable accommodation, an upgraded business centre and an exercise room.  Expect fine service from the restaurant, Sidney's Grille.

Marriott Custom House
In the heart of the Financial District, the landmark 1847 Custom House Tower (Boston's first ‘skyscraper') has been transformed to a full-service, 80-room hotel by the Marriott chain. Objects from local museums are displayed in the handsome Rotunda, while complimentary coffee is served in the lobby - it all adds up to a luxurious old-world atmosphere. There is a particularly popular cocktail lounge and an outdoor observation deck on the 26th floor with superb views of the city and harbour. Of the 80 guest rooms, some have kitchenette with microwave and fridge, while all are equipped with wet bar and coffeemaker, in-room safe and VCR player. No on-site restaurant.
