Málaga

Málaga is a buzzing city after dark all year round, with most action taking place around the Plaza del Merced and Plaza Uncibay, where the city's most popular bars are located. Calle de Bruselas, Plaza del Merced 16, is one of a row of six trendy bars and cafes with terraces spilling onto the square; while El Pimpi, Calle Granada 62, is a very traditional but lively warren-like bodega.

In summer at the weekends and holidays there is also a lively young beach nightlife scene at Malagueta and Pedragalejo.

Good clubs include Karma and Casanova, both on Calle Luis de Valazquez 5 (website: www.casanovaloungeclub.es). The latter attracts an older, more mature crowd. For more clubs under the same management see www.discotecasenmalaga.es.

The biggest and best live venue is the Sala Vivero, Poligono La Estrella, Calle Parauta 25 (website: www.salavivero.com) near the airport, with an eclectic policy, from rock and blues to hip hop. Tickets for gigs are on sale from Tiendas Tipo in Plaza Uncibay.

Flamenco is a passion in Southern Spain. Regular shows are held at Restaurante Mesón 'La Mesonera', Calle Gómez Pallete 11, next to the Teatro Cervantes, and at Vista Andalucia, Avenida Los Guindos 29, near the airport.

Jazz fans will enjoy Onda Passadena, Calle Gomez Pallete 9, and Ragtime, Calle Reding 12. Both venues also feature flamenco nights.
