March
One of Spain's most spectacular firework celebrations, culminating in giant figures, expertly created from wood and papier-maché, meeting a fiery end.

April
The most spectacular processions and ‘battles' take place in Alcoi, 11km (7 miles) south of Valencia, but the city also stages its own noisy celebrations.

The highlights are the ‘battle of the flowers' (last Sunday), the International Musical Band Competition (first fortnight), Feria de San Jaime bullfights (second and third weeks) and the performing arts from classical ballet, to rock bands to zarzuela (Spanish light opera).
