The beautiful His Majesty's Theatre, Rosemount Viaduct (tel: (01224) 641122 or 0845 270 8200; website: www.hmtaberdeen.com) has been Aberdeens main theatre venue since 1906 and celebrated its 100th anniversary in 2006 after a two-year £7.8m facelift. It puts on opera, ballet, contemporary dance, drama and much more. The Music Hall, Union Street (tel: (01224) 63 2080 or 641 122 (tickets); website: www.musichallaberdeen.com), is Aberdeen's premier concert hall venue. Located in the heart of the city centre the Music Hall plays host to a wide variety of concerts, performances, shows and events from classical concerts to contempary comedy. The Aberdeen Exhibition and Conference Centre, Bridge of Don (tel: (01224) 824 824; website: www.aecc.co.uk) is a venue for major concerts and also hosts trade fairs and exhibitions

For mainstream film releases head to the Cineworld (tel: 0871 200 2000; website: www.cineworld.co.uk) multi-screen cinema complex on the beachfront Esplanade. The city also has a great art-house cinema in the Belmont Picture House, 49 Belmont Street (tel: (01224) 343536; website: www.picturehouses.co.uk) showing the best from the alternative cinema scene.
